What you’ll do…

As the Bands Sustainability & Safety Manager you will implement Sustainability & Safety initiatives and programmes that deliver the M&S Group ESG strategies. And to ensure continuous improvement in our supply chain against the monitoring and ranking programme.

Your key accountabilities will include

  • To support the Business Development Lead to deliver the Third Party Brands Sustainability strategy and Plan A commitments by implementing sustainability and safety initiatives and programmes that resolve brand partner issues. And to ensure continuous improvement in our third party Brand partner against the monitoring and ranking auditing programme
  • Leading, along with the Brands Onboarding Manager, the Brands Centre of Excellence, working with external brands and internal stakeholders to onboard Brands across Clothing, Home & Beauty.
  • To manage the Third Party Brand Onboarding programme with the business development team; monitoring ESG and Safety Compliance audit findings, facilitating due diligence, assessing Brands ranking (Bronze/Silver/Gold), monitoring the Critical Escalation process and working with internal stakeholders to develop programmes to resolve issues found.
  • Accountable for identifying critical/high risk ethical issues in the supply base and escalating these to the Business Development Lead and Head of Category and be responsible for informing Buying teams. Communicate progress of the Critical escalation Policy to necessary stakeholders.
  • Liaising with different areas of the business to manage Brands ranking and resolve issues, implement relevant ESG & Safety programmes and projects and ensure that the branded policies are upheld.
  • Work with Brand Partners to help them drive improvement and hold meetings with relevant compliance personnel to help improve Brands understanding of Marks and Spencer requirements in Ethical Trade and Human Rights, factory compliance, Plan A, and Safety requirements beyond monitoring. Develop agendas and presentations to communicate key messages to the supply base.
  • Managing the Brands ESG programmes that deliver Plan A commitments. Ensure projects and programmes are tracked, monitored, measured and reported on. Accountable for attending external workshops and collaborative groups to promote M&S’s brand ESG & Safety reputation and visibility. Build relationships with external organisations and academics to help deliver ESG & Safety projects and create new options through stakeholder engagement
  • Regularly review and revise existing policies and procedures, and collaborate with the Ethical, Sustainability and Safety managers across the CH&B and Foods Group to ensure consistency across business areas

Who you are

Your skills and experience will include

  • Ability to manage and motivate Brands Sustainability & Safety teams to support implementation of strategy and drive success
  • Line manage Brands Sustainability Admin Assistance, developing a high performing team culture.
  • Ability to ensure Plan A & Safety standards are upheld while achieving the commercial needs of the business.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the interpretation of EU & UK Sustainability and Safety laws for assessment
  • Knowledge of and experience in the implementation of corrective actions for the resolution of non-compliancesfound during the Onboarding process and beyond.
  • Experience of working with NGOs, External Brands and multi-stakeholder initiatives. Ability to liaise and communicate across all internal M&S stakeholders and BU’s on Brands Sustainability & Safety issues
  • Able to manage innovative programmes to resolve Sustainability & Safety issues working with Brands, internal stakeholders and external organisations. Building trust with customers and external stakeholders to maintain leading Sustainable retailer position
