BAM UK& Ireland is recruiting an under graduate Social Sustainability Trainee (Fixed term placement option for 6 or 12 months) to join our Scotland operations team on Construction projects in Glasgow (Gartcosh and Chryston). Reporting to our Project Manager.

You will work on employment, education and community activities on BAM projects in Scotland.  You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, to plan, promote, deliver, monitor and report on BAM’s social sustainability, education and community engagement.This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team environment and deliver our social impact KPI,s. The role will involve working from our project and site offices.

Your mission

  • Deliver against the agreed social value KPI,s for achieving targets that align with client expectations/contractual requirements.
  • Collate all necessary social value data from projects and input into BAM’s Social Sustainability Reporting Tool.
  • Produce monthly social value reports for the regional management team.
  • Support projects in  collecting data  against the project commitments on local employment and training, including apprentice targets where required.
  • Proactively establish links with relevant education establishments, training providers and community organisations.
  • Organise and support the delivery of work experience (virtual and live) placements on projects or in offices. These will be placements for students and  young people looking to get into employment to undertake activities which:
  • Assist projects in meeting the minimum requirements of the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme with regards to community engagement.
  • Liaise with the supply chain to provide opportunities for unemployed people and apprentices into work. Collect training and employment data from the supply chain.
  • Promote activities with BAM’s charity partners, and proactively encourage volunteering and fundraising within the region.
  • Drive BAM’s strategic agenda to enhance lives, by supporting centrally organised community engagement initiatives at a site level.
  • Attend So Su meetings to receive training updates, share best practice and network with teams across the business.

Who are we looking for?

  • A high degree of energy and self-motivation.
  • Experience / interest in community engagement and managing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Be highly competent in MS Suite – especially Excel and Powerpoint
  • An understanding  / interest  EDI and the Employment and Skills agenda
  • Ability to  develop knowledge and gain experience in National TOMs and the Social Value Portal.
  • Self-motivated and flexible to manage own diary and tasks.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Able to work well within a team environment.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to inspire and engage a broad cross section of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
