Overview

Work within the project team environment providing support and advice to operational teams on aspects of the sustainability agenda specific to their appointment and skillset, as well as supporting the implementation of the Sustainability Management System and the Sisk Sustainability Strategy across the relevant projects and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Attendance at relevant functional sustainability team meetings.
  • Proactively contributing to the ongoing development of the Sustainability Management System.
  • Know, understand and promote the Sustainability Management System, Strategy and 2030 Sustainability Roadmap to deliver continual improvement.
  • Share knowledge and best practice across the project(s) and function.
  • Understand the company Sustainability Policy and Procedures and statutory requirements as they affect the company’s operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented.
  • Champion the Sisk Sustainability Strategy and promote change on site.
  • Develop and implement actions to achieve project sustainability objectives and targets.
  • Ensuring compliance of the Sustainability Management System at site level, including supporting the population and review of the Project SEEP and associated documentation.
  • Review and monitor works activities for compliance with the Sustainability Management System Procedures.
  • Attend and assist with project Sustainability MS Compliance audits/inspections, including external audits by certification bodies on appointed projects
  • Provide support to tender and prequalification teams with regards to marketing, tenders and pre-qualification information.
  • Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters of environmental management and sustainability.
  • Support the reporting and monitoring of Sustainability performance against KPIs.
  • Maintain and build upon own knowledge and competency in relation to Environmental Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership.
  • Be aware of any changes to standards and legislation and where applicable recommend changes to systems and processes.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the prevention of environmental incidents and complaints, and the practical implementation of the company policies.
  • Lead* and support the reporting and investigation of environmental incidents and support the business to implement controls to prevent repeat occurrence.
  • Provide advice and guidance for obtaining legal consents, licences, permits, exemptions, Material Management Plans etc, as and when required, and as directed.
  • Manage the process for obtaining licences and permits as required by the works including liaison with Enforcement Agencies e.g. Natural England, Environment Agency, EPA, Local Authorities etc.
  • Deliver environmental training, as required.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 (5*) years environmental experience in a construction environment or similar
  • Relevant degree and/or professional qualification
  • Full relevant driver’s licence and flexibility to travel where required
  • Experience of supporting environmental inspections and audits of projects
  • Application of legal, technical and regulatory information to the construction process
  • Communication skills, both written and oral § Good IT skills

  • Influencing skills and ability to manage challenging conversations
  • Experience engaging with senior management to deliver internal system compliance and regulatory compliance*
