Here at Serco, we are seeking an ambitious Principal Environment, Energy and Sustainability Manager to ensure environmental compliance, mitigate risks and capitalise on opportunities effectively. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining our ISO14001 certification and driving continuous improvement in our environmental performance in alignment with our environmental and ESG strategy.

This role is crucial for leading environmental management within our division, supporting the realisation of Serco’s environmental goals. You will collaborate closely with various stakeholders to enhance our environmental performance while ensuring compliance forms the bedrock of our efforts.

As part of this you’ll:

  • Manage divisional the environmental management system, ensuring ISO14001 certification and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in environmental legislation, guiding compliance efforts.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the divisional ESG and environment proposition, strategy, targets and KPIs.
  • Provide expert support to operational teams on environmental management and compliance.
  • Assist in managing environmental risk and responding to incidents.
  • Support acquisition and management of environmental permits, licenses and consents.
  • Conduct compliance assurance reviews and drive environmental improvement projects.
  • Lead environmental engagement activities and develop green skills across the division.
  • Coordinate Serco UK Green Ambassador Network.
  • Integrate environmental improvements into growth initiatives and bid solutions.
  • Collate and analyse environmental performance data for reporting and improvement.
  • Manage packaging data collation for compliance.

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Professional membership with an environmental industry body, with PIEMA or chartered environmentalist status desirable.
  • Experience implementing environmental management systems and ensuring compliance with ISO14001 standards.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant environmental legislation, compliance obligations, best practices and management procedures within a corporate context.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Environmental auditing experience or qualification is desirable.
  • Ability to travel across the UK to operational sites.
