Summary of Role

The Resources Recovery and Waste (RRW) team in Anthesis UK is well established and provides services across the three interaction areas of our client journey, from analytics to implementation and solutions. We work with a very diverse client base which includes well-known brands, trade bodies, private companies across multiple sectors, waste management operators and the investment community. We are also proud to have delivered some of the most pioneering waste and circular economy projects in the NGO and public sectors throughout our 10-year history.

Anthesis has recently received a significant investment from Carlyle, with impact investment from Palatine and Tikehau. This represents the opportunity to continue to grow and develop our services and geographic reach as well as the impact that we can deliver during the decisive decade. As part of its commitment to sustainable performance leadership, Anthesis has created an exciting new structure, and our global teams have taken a step closer to seamless working. Our UK RRW team is currently the center of excellence in our global resource pool, with smaller teams working collaboratively from elsewhere in our EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), North and Latin America and APAC regions.

We are looking for an experienced waste professional who can demonstrate technical and leadership skills and who enjoys operating in a dynamic environment as part of a high-energy team. The role is UK based, but it is likely the multi-national teams will be used in project delivery, therefore the individual in post must be comfortable working remotely from some team members and engaging with colleagues of different cultures.

The successful candidate will share our values of delivering change and activating opportunity. Our recent internal restructure creates an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to support the work of the RRW team to optimize the Anthesis networks in order to respond to the twin drivers of compliance and innovation that we see steering the global market over the next few years.

Specifically, the RRW has prioritized the need for someone with strong networks of contacts from the waste, regulation, investment and business sectors. We are seeking someone who is connected to leadership and thought-leadership groups and who is actively involved in discussions with industry and policy makers on the direction of travel for circular economy and adherence with the waste hierarchy.

A strong understanding of the UK landscape and of Europe is essential, as is the ability to flex between waste projects for different client types which will require the application of knowledge in different ways to deliver on expectations.

Key roles will include:
  • Providing technical support and direction on market studies and technical reports.
  • Leading the data analytics requirements and providing support and oversight to more junior members of the team to undertake data analytics
  • Supporting investors and infrastructure developers to understand the feedstock markets and regulatory landscape in which facilities operate and build the new facilities needed to create a circular economy.
  • Leading market assessments and commercial due diligence with investors, technology developers, waste management companies.
  • Developing value chain assessments for clients wishing to establish more circular routes for waste material streams.
  • Growing our scope 3 and carbon reduction strategies to deliver net zero targets with colleagues from the RRW and climate teams.
  • Growing our food waste, own waste and other analytical services, and aligning our offer with reporting requirements such as CSRD ERS E5 and good practice guidance.
  • Creating waste prevention, and materials management strategies.
  • Overseeing waste footprinting, waste auditing and compliance reviews for our FMCG, retailer and other large multinational clients.
  • Line management and coaching/ mentoring team members to increase their technical waste knowledge and ability to apply knowledge to a variety of clients.

Anthesis operates an agile structure which empowers colleagues to use their expertise and skills across other areas of the Advisory Community to which they belong. There will also be strong links to the enabling functions within Anthesis, such as our marketing team, client discovery and our client activator guides, and Anthesis Digital.

Key Responsibilities
The post will be a senior position within the team and therefore the responsibilities combine sales, project management, technical delivery and team development.
  • Support to set the direction of travel for the team, including establishing growth markets and opportunities, determining client and go-to-market strategies, and setting budget.
  • Ensuring that the team has sufficient work to meet, and if possible exceed, budget expectations and to demonstrate growth year on year.
  • Undertaking marketing and establishing themselves and the team as a thought leader and go-to expert in the UK and EU marketplaces for circularity and waste services.
  • Delivering effective business development activities which secure new projects with existing Anthesis clients and new clients to the business.
  • Working collaboratively with other parts of the Anthesis business model to secure opportunities for the team to benefit from and generate new projects as part of the good practice client management model we operate.
  • Ensuring the high quality of all outputs that are delivered by taking the role of the Project Sponsor/Director on billable projects including being the client contact and responsible for quality and technical delivery of projects.
  • Demonstrating leadership within the team, including providing some shadowing, mentoring and training opportunities to help grow and develop our next generation of technical specialists and leaders.
  • Supporting personal and team development through good line management of individuals within the team.
  • Following processes to ensure that our internal requirements for transparency and reporting are met.
  • Demonstrating the Anthesis Values.
