Overview
Purpose of the role
Partners with the Group’s corporate customers and other stakeholders to deliver Scope 3 emissions reductions for business travel and cargo shipments, while reducing the financial cost and risk of delivering on the Group’s decarbonisation roadmap and 10% SAF target by 2030, and positioning the Group’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) portfolio to meet net zero by 2050. Identifies, develops, executes, and manages customer partnership opportunities within and beyond the Group’s SAF Scope 3 program to accelerate the use of SAF.
Accountabilities:
- Lead end-to-end process of Scope 3 SAF reductions to customers, including identifying opportunities, developing and presenting offers, negotiating agreements, optimising internal supply, and delivering certificates to customers.
- Analyse and enhance pricing strategies to ensure alignment with the Group’s SAF development strategy and customer needs.
- Develop internal Sales team capabilities to sell Scope 3 SAF reductions, while acting as a resource for more advanced customer needs.
- Innovate new customer tools and opportunities around emissions data and sustainability-related offers in coordination with OpCos’ (operating companies, including airlines and IAG Cargo) Sales teams.
- Negotiate, manage, and implement customer agreements with a minimum level of complexity.
- Collaborate with IAG’s Fuel and SAF teams to coordinate and optimise SAF supply to meet customer needs, while minimising overall SAF procurement costs and reducing customer and programme risk.
- Accurately track and forecast programme finances, both at a Group level and for individual OpCos.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and lead biannual programme verification process with external auditor.
- Develop documentation to ensure compliance with internal controls, and lead annual programme verification process with internal audit.
- Influence NGO frameworks on SAF accounting, additionality, and book-and-claim mechanisms to maximise SAF flexibility and minimise the cost of decarbonisation.
- Develop the Group’s capabilities to participate in emerging SAF registries.
- Identify and develop further strategic partnerships and opportunities to shape the SAF and decarbonisation landscape and enhance customer relationships.
- Provide SAF and SAF-related technical and subject matter expertise and guidance both internally and externally.
- Advise senior leaders on rapidly evolving SAF landscape to strategically position the Group.
- Engage in and connect internal stakeholders to the latest SAF developments and trends, including representing IAG at industry events and other platforms.
- Support Group and individual OpCos’ Communications teams to drive the Group’s reputational enhancement through internal and external PR on SAF.
- Build and maintain relationships with relevant customers, airlines, associations, NGOs, and other stakeholders to influence the development of voluntary and regulatory frameworks consistent with IAG’s strategy.
- Serve as an internal champion of SAF’s contribution to IAG’s broader environmental sustainability strategy.
Required skills & experience:
- Thorough knowledge of current state of SAF: Technical (feedstock/pathways, logistics, opportunities/constraints), Commercial (current and future players, vertical value chain, competitor activities), Policy (Current and proposed legislation)
- Extensive knowledge of sustainability and greenhouse gas reporting frameworks and lifecycle assessment, including familiarity with the main regulatory and voluntary frameworks
- Commercial experience in negotiating and managing contracts and complex agreements
- Experience partnering cross-functionally in a large, corporate environment and a history of driving results
- Skilled in understanding and explaining commercial risk and technical concepts in a manner tailored to the audience
- Demonstrated track record of developing meaningful relationships with colleagues and industry peers
- Ability to assume a high level of responsibility, working independently and collaboratively within a large organization
- Ability to balance a wide range of competing assignments and deliver high-quality results, occasionally within very tight time frames
- Ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information
- Ability to communicate insights from technical reports, publications, and presentations in a structured, digestible, and concise manner
