An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional leader to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as Head of Sustainability.
This permanent post is based within the Estates and Facilities Directorate and offers a unique chance to lead the strategic direction of sustainability across one of the UK’s largest health boards.
We are seeking a highly motivated, visionary, and experienced professional with a strong background in sustainability, policy development, and environmental management. You will bring a proven track record of delivering complex programmes in large, multi-site organisations, ideally within industry or similar sized public sector organisations.
As Head of Sustainability, you will be responsible for leading a team that is driving NHS GGC’s Net Zero ambitions, development and implementation of the Board’s Sustainability Strategy, and ensuring compliance with national and international reporting standards. You will manage a dedicated team of professionals and oversee a portfolio of work streams that progress Scottish Government Delivery Plan Objectives and the Boards Sustainability Strategy.
This is a senior leadership role requiring excellent communication, change management experience, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement skills. You will work closely with senior management across the organisation, Scottish Government, local authorities, and external partners to influence positive outcomes for NHSGGC.
You will be educated to master’s level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject (Environmental Science/Management/Engineering or Sustainability) and hold full membership of a relevant professional institute (IEMA or CIWEM) and or Chartered Status. Expert knowledge of climate change legislation, ISO management systems (14001 & 9001) and International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Risk Management. Experience of working in regulated industry is strongly preferred.
