Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement an appropriate and evolving sustainability strategy that will underpin Wincanton’s environment targets, manage environmental risks and contribute to profitable growth through identification and pursuit of new opportunities. Utilising your commercial acumen in support of our Business Development Teams during bids, tenders and customer engagement.
- Align our sustainability strategy to appropriate external indicators and global trends to ensure our programme is competitive; leading; and for long-term best-in-class. Setting appropriate, long-term sustainability goals and targets that are credible, aspirational and drive innovation.
- Shape the company’s sustainability programme by establishing company and sector KPIs and measuring and monitoring processes and by working closely with key internal stakeholders to maintain progress against goals and targets.
- Deliver, through matrix management, the necessary project execution across the group to deliver against our sustainability objectives spanning communities and social value, environment, sustainability, technology, transportation, innovation and customer engagement.
- Partner closely with the Executive teams, Senior Management and key stakeholders to stay ahead of sustainability and CSR trends in and around the industry. Focusing on opportunities for the company to continue to improve and accelerate.
- Develop internal and external networks and strategic partnerships with third parties to enhance customer and community relationships in order to implement and deliver the sustainability CSR strategy and targets.
- Work closely with internal and external communications to enable, celebrate and demonstrate a culture of care for the environment which meets our philanthropic goals, enhances our reputation as a responsible business and increases colleague engagement.
- Environmental legal compliance and reporting (Carbon, waste, packaging, licensing, major incidents).

- Ability to develop simple and compelling ROI and lifetime cost modelling which meet the goals of the Wincanton Sustainability strategy and also delivers value to our customers and shareholders. Such modelling will consider longer term challenges and challenge traditional models.
- Proven leadership with building high performing teams, selecting and developing high calibre individuals, and working as part of a senior leadership team.
- Qualification to a minimum of degree level or beyond in an appropriate subject, with an excellent grasp of Sustainability and Environment technology, trends and legislation. Beneficial to hold membership and/or chartered status from a relevant institution(s).
