We have an exciting opportunity as Head of Sustainability EMEA.

The Head of Sustainability EMEA is part of the global corporate PR & sustainability team and plays a critical role in leading Subway EMEA’s sustainability efforts in the region, including driving forward the global sustainability framework encompassing both social and environmental pillars. The role works collaboratively with global, regional, and functional teams across the company as well as with our supply chain and industry partners.  The individual is both a team player and self-starter with a passion for tackling complex challenges and driving meaningful change.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with EMEA regional and functional teams to execute the EMEA sustainability strategy as part of the global sustainability framework, including climate impact and carbon reduction; lead and implement the regional packaging strategy and oversee and implement Subway’s sustainable sourcing policy and guidelines.   The role will also review data and reporting criteria across the business and supply chain to demonstrate progress and proof points towards building a better Subway.
  • Develop and execute EMEA’s sustainability roadmap, in partnership with key functions.
  • Keep leadership updated and aligned on sustainability goals and drive progress against stated commitments.
  • Support the communications team to educate and engage with franchisees, consumers, employees, NGOs, media, and other stakeholders on Subway sustainability initiatives.
  • Aggregate and manage EMEA’s sustainability data and report progress against sustainability goals and commitments to key stakeholders.
  • Assess trends, emerging issues and serve as subject matter sustainability expert on environmental and social topics, such as responsible sourcing, climate, and sustainable packaging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure legislative compliance across packaging, climate, environment, and the supply chain topics.
  • Maintain and establish partnerships and relationships with external and industry organizations and participate in relevant working groups as appropriate.
  • Support communications and the H&N teams to deliver against social and community initiatives that will drive our brand reputation and give back to society in a positive way.
  • Work with and/or lead external consultants and agencies, as needed.

Qualifications (some examples listed below):

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in a Finance function of a global concern, or related experience
  • Demonstrate subject matter expertise in both environmental, packaging, and social aspects of sustainability.
  • Experience developing and implementing sustainability plans for an organization, brand, or program, working with cross-functional teams across regions.
  • Proven track record of driving change across an organization and engaging with senior-level stakeholders.
  • Excellent written, visual, and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex data in understandable and actionable ways.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrate strong contacts and is well networked within sustainability and environmental circles.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize workload and comfortable working within a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, detail oriented
  • Interpersonal, relationship-building and networking skills with a self-motivated attitude to work.
  • Language requirements: Fluent in English – any additional language a plus.
