Overview
We are recruiting for a Group Sustainability Manager to join our Group Sustainability team, reporting to the Group Sustainability Director.
This will be a highly varied role with interaction across all group functions and operating businesses, and a range of external stakeholders. The role will require some travel across the Persimmon businesses and can be more home based, and ideally within easy reach of one our Midlands regional offices. This role is at mid-management level, and we would expect candidates to have relevant experience, with a background in sustainability from similar sector organisations or consultancy.
The role will include:
- Supporting the Group Sustainability Director in managing and developing the Group’s social and environmental performance and deployment of the sustainability strategy and contribute to the future strategic direction.
- Sustainability data collection, analysis and reporting, and managing the external data assurance requirements for carbon and increasingly other non-financial metrics.
- Supporting the completion of a range of ESG reporting indices (including CDP, MSCI).
- Assisting in the reporting of sustainability performance throughout the Group, liaising with all relevant stakeholders and preparing reports for Executive committees.
- Supporting on delivery of the Group’s net zero carbon transition plans, and reporting to TCFD.
- Engaging in sustainability and R&D projects to improve performance, working cross functionally across the business.
- Supporting in the development and delivery of sustainability training and engagement, working closely with key internal departments to ensure an integrated approach.
- Developing internal and external sustainability communications, creating case studies and messages for marketing, external affairs teams, to ensure our approach promotes sustainability and corporate responsibility.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement across all areas of sustainability and tracking external trends and undertaking benchmarking.
What we need from you?
- Proven experience in sustainability matters relevant to the home building or construction sector, or transferrable skillset.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of key sustainability issues and trends affecting the sector.
- High degree of experience in sustainability data collection, management and reporting, with excellent writing skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Familiarity with reporting to external surveys, eg CDP etc
- Experience of net zero carbon and transition pathways desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, and presentation skills with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Degree level education or equivalent
- Ability to work with high productivity from a home base, and willing to travel across the UK (on a limited basis).
We are also interested in candidates who have additional specialisms in sustainability data management and systems or sustainability communications.
