The Role

An exciting placement opportunity has arisen for an organised, confident and forward thinking Environmental and Sustainability Assistant to join our Sustainability and Communications Team on a 12 month placement.

Reporting to the Environmental and Sustainability Advisor, you will be responsible for providing support in delivering a strategic, coordinated and proactive environmental and sustainability agenda for the Airport and ensure that all environmental obligations and responsibilities are met.

The successful candidate will be closely involved in exciting projects such as implementing the Airport Net Zero Carbon 2035 Strategy, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Strategy, Environmental Management System and Masterplan. The role includes the day-to-day coordination of environmental monitoring procedures and processing and interpreting data outputs for water quality, air quality, noise and waste management.

You will be a logical thinker with the ability to work collaboratively and balance competing priorities. As well as this, you will be comfortable with compiling and analysing data, identifying trends and reporting on environmental performance. The successful applicant should also demonstrate strong organisational skills, adaptability and persistence when faced with demanding challenges. However, the most important attribute is a passion for both protecting and reducing our impact on the environment, as well as transitioning to a more sustainable future.

If you are in your penultimate year at university, this placement is for you. A degree in Environmental Science or a sustainability-related subject is desirable.

Please note; The start date for this role will be September 2025 and will be a full-time position, working Monday – Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1630. The role will be predominantly office based, within Newcastle Airport.
