Overview

As part of the Land & Mineral Resources Team and reporting directly to the Head of Land & Mineral Resources, we require an experienced Environment Manager to lead and drive the environmental strategy for Breedon GB Materials through the provision of professional advice and solutions, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and continuous improvement.

Leading a team of 5 you will develop our environmental strategy ensuring the Company complies with all relevant environmental legislation, implements best practice and approved codes of practice and guidance in relation to all UK operations. You will also ensure the Company has all relevant and appropriate environmental permits required to operate.

To work proactively with all levels of management, so as to establish and maintain a positive environment impact and focus for colleagues, neighbours and stakeholders.

This is a hybrid role, with expectations to travel nationally.

You will be responsible for:

  • Preparation and maintenance of our environmental legal register and risk register
  • Compliance with all relevant Environmental legislation
  • Promote continuous improvement of environmental and associated sustainability performance
  • Developing Key Environmental Performance Indicators
  • Environmental Management System (EMS) including water, waste, biodiversity
  • Developing strategy, targets and policies around water, waste, air, land, noise, vibration, radiation, vapours, light, chemicals, dust, recycling, plastic, biodiversity and communities
  • Up-to-date IMS systems, procedures and controls to achieve standards & accreditations
  • Monitoring performance, data improvement, reporting and associated communications
  • Statutory reporting and responses (Including the Mineral Products Association)
  • Oversight of Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Ensuring we have all necessary permits required to operate throughout the UK
  • Responding to and investigating serious incidents
  • Represent and promote environmental meetings, workshops, management reviews and forums
  • Investigate and address complaints and breaches
  • Assist with tenders and presentations to external bodies
  • Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain spatial assessments and Natural Capital valuations
  • Advise on the preparation of environmental risk assessments and method statements
  • Drive environmental competency and training (IEMA) at all management levels
  • Environmental Regulatory consultation responses
  • Coordinate all environmental audits and inspections and provide support for external audits
  • Manage relationship with all relevant UK regulators
  • Internal reporting and communication
  • Strategic memberships and partnerships
  • Industry and policy influence

Skills & Experience required

  • Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in an appropriate environmental discipline
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • IEMA membership or equivalent
  • Experience of Environmental Permitting across the UK
  • Understanding and experience of Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001
  • Strong written and verbal communication and negotiating skills
  • Full driving license
