Overview

The Business Manager (BM) for Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) will support the CSO in the effective performance of their responsibilities. This is a great role to gain a broad experience of the Sustainability function across the wider M&G plc Group. The BM will be expected to have strong knowledge of sustainability as well as people and communication skills. They will provide value through applying technical and commercial expertise, supporting delivery of successful outcomes, and challenging where appropriate. The successful candidate will be a strong self-starter with a positive and proactive attitude and able to manage and prioritize competing demands.

 

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the BM will be support to the CSO and perform key activities:

Support sustainability activities across the group

  • Support the CSO by partnering with business unit teams to build robust and coherent sustainability execution plans , with subsequent performance management
  • Help shape the broader Sustainability story through a group strategy lens, both for internal audiences, and external audiences in collaboration with the Investor Relations team
  • Assist the CSO in driving and prioritizing various strategic initiatives and projects to optimize the performance of the  Central Sustainability Office
  • Assist the CSO in preparation for leadership meetings
  • Support the coordination and creation of robust sustainability narrative across the Group
  • Build relationships to help drive projects and initiatives across the group

 

Board/Regulatory activity

  • Support preparation for Board meetings and committees (e.g. PLC Board, GEC, ESC, Audit, Risk, With-Profits Committee), including writing of papers, updates and presentations
  • Support preparation for meetings with regulators (PRA, FCA)
  • Act as secretariat for the Executive sustainability Committee (ESC)
  • Assist the CSO in ensuring that a robust risk and control environment is maintained, both within the team, and with links to teams external to but on whom reliance is placed (e.g. Sustainability Reporting, Risk, Communications etc.).

 

Team management

  • Support the CSO in broader team management aspects, e.g. cross-team communication and events, driving analysis and actions from external and internal stakeholder feedback
  • Track and manage costs across component teams, including identification of actions to ensure that overall cost targets are met

 

Group Finance Leadership team activity

  • Ensure the team’s activities and actions are aligned with and contribute to the delivery of the wider Group Finance function’s OKRs
  • Contribute to wider Finance initiatives, including driving the wider People agenda and making Finance a great place to work

 

Across each of these activities, the BM will be expected to support on various ad-hoc projects and requests as necessary.

 

You will have:

  • Significant experience of influencing outcomes and managing complex relationships at senior level
  • Significant experience of sustainability within financial institutions
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Significant experience of providing support to complex, diverse, ambiguous projects
  • Significant experience of sustainable analytical techniques
  • Understanding of Financial Services sustainable regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Understanding of customer, business and markets in terms of sustainability
