Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated individual to join the CHoICE Facilities Services team at Sunderland Royal Hospital (SRH) as Assistant Estates Officer (Energy & Sustainability). Working closely with the Estates Officer (Energy & Sustainability), the role will help drive and deliver the implementation of the Trusts sustainability agenda for reaching net zero carbon by 2040 for direct emissions and 2045 for indirect emissions, as outlined within the Delivering a Net Zero Heath Service Report.

Joining the CHoICE Facilities Services Hard FM Team, the successful applicant will form part of an expanding team and an ambitious organisation which has a history of developing internal team members and is constantly looking to develop new and existing services to provide the best possible healthcare facilities management services within the region.

As a Champion for helping us achieve net zero, this role will help support the existing desire to embed sustainability practices within all CHoICE and wider Trust activities. With the successful applicant helping CHoICE and South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust work towards reducing its impact on the environment whilst simultaneously promoting healthcare services to be more sustainable for future generations through the revision of existing practices and influence on the local and wider community.

 

Main duties of the job

As part of the CFS Hard FM Team, the successful applicant will support the existing desire to embed sustainability practices within all CHoICE & Trust activities. This will result in the post holder helping CHoICE and the Trust reduce its impact on the environment through revisions to existing practices and influence on the wider community to promote healthcare services that are more sustainable for the future.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a range of acquired specialist knowledge and qualifications within Energy & Sustainability which is demonstrable to degree level or equivalent. A key element of the role will be to assist in the management and reporting on energy and water usage and costs at premises maintained by CFS. This will include the maintenance of procurement contracts, verification of bills and resolution of invoicing issues. The role will also assist in the production of feasibility studies linked to energy saving or Carbon reduction schemes.

The role will require the post holder to have good communication skills to allow them to provide and receive complex information and exchange this information with staff at all levels, contractors, suppliers and external agencies alike. The post holder will also be required to provide professional advice and guidance to Department Managers in the development of business plans to ensure that sustainability and carbon reduction are key elements of service development.
