What is the opportunity?

The role of the Sustainable Finance Group (“SFG”) is to position RBC Capital Markets as a market leader in sustainable finance by providing Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) advice and solutions to our clients, in developing internal and external strategies and capabilities in the ESG space, and by working across Capital Markets to integrate ESG into their RBC CM’s core businesses.

The team is a global cross-platform, multi-disciplinary group with experience across investment banking, sustainability, consulting, and government policy.

The hire will report to the Director, SFG Europe in London as part of the global SFG group, working closely with DCM, Global Markets and Investment and Corporate Banking.

We would consider both Analyst or Associate level candidates for this role.

What will you do?

  • Support the Director, SFG Europe, in ongoing client engagements including the preparation of bespoke pitching materials/ideas and client coverage support related to the sustainable finance space (e.g. Green/Social/Sustainability and Sustainability-linked financial products), tailored to a UK & European audience
  • Assist in deal execution and coordinate with Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Banking, and other groups to support clients’ ESG funding needs
  • Monitor global sustainability and ESG trends, themes, and topics
  • Analyse quantitative data related to sustainable finance
  • Review research and reports to distil insights to support client-facing thought-leadership
  • Support institutional investor dialogue on ESG including annual ESG credit survey
  • Maintaining and updating ESG and Sustainable Finance databases
  • Compiling ESG market updates and commentary for internal and external clients
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal counterparts (M&A, corporate banking, legal, sales, trading, research, IB), as well as colleagues in other business areas in London, Paris, Frankfurt, New York, Toronto and Sydney where the bank has other origination offices

What do you need to succeed?

​Must-have:

  • Understanding of capital markets and excellent knowledge of RBC CM’s core businesses
  • Proven quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Knowledge of key trends, themes and issues related to ESG, sustainable finance and sustainability
  • Bachelor’s degree – emphasis in finance, business, economics and/or sustainability is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels of organization
  • Ability to effectively manage competing timelines and priorities for multiple teams and across global time zones
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Power Point and Excel
  • Experience with Bloomberg, S&P and third-party ESG data services such Sustainalytics and MSCI is a plus
  • Formal training in sustainability via professional development programmes or courses a plus
