Overview

Key Responsibilities

Service:

  • Maintain & continually develop organisations Environmental Management System (EMS) to ISO1400.
  • Coordinate & support Environmental Working Groups (EWG’s).
  • Identify, implement and maintain solutions to maintain compliance and continually improve environmental performance (e.g. in areas of waste, water, air, energy etc).
  • Maintain and develop systems for tracking environmental performance metrics.
  • Deploy an effective internal audit/inspection regime and help facilitate external/third party audits & inspections.
  • Evaluate and help manage environmental performance of contractors.
  • Engage with internal & external stakeholders to maintain and continually develop ESG/sustainability programmes (e.g. in areas of waste, biodiversity, carbon).
  • Develop and deliver training, awareness & communication on environmental/sustainability as appropriate to support positive outcomes.
  • Support wider environment and waste department as requested by line management; and support the wider ABM functions as necessary.

HSEQ:

  • Adopt and promote a safe working environment.
  • Effective root cause incident investigation and identification of suitable preventative actions.
  • Take a results-orientated approach. Data is recorded, analysed/trended and understood to inform identification of remedial actions.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and provide guidance on arrangements for compliance.
  • Preparation of professional reports (e.g. for issue to management, clients or other stakeholders).
  • Member of emergency response team (ERT) and be available for occasional out of hours work.

Other:

  • Support the growth of the business, where possible, by up-selling and cross-selling to customers and by passing on potential sales leads.
  • Support any customer initiatives which could lead to longer term benefits to both the customer and ABM.
  • Support continual professional of self and wider team to ensure flexibility and business growth potential.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as reasonably requested by a member of the Management Team.

Requirements

Essential:

  • A primary degree in Environmental/Sustainability or related discipline.
  • Working experience, knowledge and understanding of environmental management systems (ISO14001).
  • Understanding of sustainability and its application to business & industry.
  • 2+ years experience in an environmental/sustainability role.
  • IT literate including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint as a minimum.
  • A full, clean driving licence.
  • Confident decision maker under pressure.
  • Flexible, reliable, responsible, calm in a crisis.
  • Positive and supporting of organisational change.
  • Positive attitude to private outsourcing.
  • Motivated by a desire to grow the business using effective systems.
  • A willing team player.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Willing to continue professional development and to develop the role.
  • Willing to undergo, and provide, training/coaching in line with organisational philosophy.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in a regulated manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrable experience of progressing environmental & sustainability improvement initiatives.
  • Environmental auditing & inspection.
  • Membership of relevant professional body (e.g. ISEP, CIWEM)
  • Registered Environmental & EMS auditor.
  • NEBOSH certificate in occupational Health & Safety.
  • Demonstrable ability to create conditions whereby team and individuals are motivated to meet the purpose of the region.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communicator, able to convey information in a clear, simple and warm manner; and ability to adapt to audience type.
  • Capable problem solver, ability to support root cause investigation and deploy improvement initiatives.
  • Able to manage time and adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and their application.
