Overview
About the role
- Responsible for leading the value engineering program for the category portfolio across all the supply chain nodes and generate business value through continuous Gross Margin enhancement and/or improving the sustainability impact across the supply chain in the medium & long term, in collaboration with Commercial and R&D organizations
- Lead development and execution of the respective Category Value Engineering program to support CH business GM and Sustainability improvement objectives
- Responsible for securing endorsement for agreed projects at PMBs and with Areas as required
- Drive and monitor implementation of agreed strategies through project teams
- Lead Value Engineering inputs into and from Product Portfolio Optimisation strategies in the Stage & Gate process through utilizing Design to Value and Complexity Reduction tools for new product development & existing portfolio
- Track and report the progress of your portfolio of projects in the existing systems and processes for efficient tracking of the Value Engineering pipeline and in-year project implementation (i.e. Fusion, Galaxy, Excel trackers)
- Develop Value Engineering skills and training (eg product tear down workshops) within the cross functional team and sites and embed through coaching and mentoring
- Promote and influence the deployment of Sustainable solutions at every level of our products (packaging, API’s, excipients) on NPI’s, maintenance projects, and marketed products namely on : support 100% recycle readiness of the packaging portfolio, Virgin Plastic and CO2 emissions footprint reduction.
The role involves working closely with Category team, Commercial regions, Global Sustainability team, Global & Regional supply sites (external and internal), Regional Logistics, Regulatory, Legal and functional supply chain leads
In developing the Value Engineering and Sustainability project pipeline, the following elements are also considered:
- Competitor COGS benchmarking & Haleon Product lifecycle mapping and segmentation
- Macro-economic factors impacting margins (legal, political, global commodities, regulatory, local price regulations etc.)
- Inflationary factors across various global and regional sites and sourced materials
- Import & Export Duties
- Full financial cash flow business cases to assess the best option for the Enterprise as a whole
- Product and network complexity mitigation across E2E supply chain Sustainability and environmental impact
- Understanding and basic knowledge related to technical solutions to improve the Sustainability level of manufactured products
Key responsibilities
- Defining Value Engineering strategies and Road Map of short, medium & long-term activities to ensure successful delivery across the category product portfolio
- Leading cross functional teams in R&D, Commercial and SC organisations to develop and implement a holistic program to reduce Cogs and improve Sustainability impact of our portfolio through Value Engineering for the categories
- Identify Value Engineering and Sustainability opportunities from the technical & pack catalogues in close collaboration with Category Portfolio leaders and generating projects which also support complexity reduction opportunities
- Driving and influencing alignment on Value Engineering platform initiatives impacting the bottom line delivery with senior Commercial leaders in the category and regions
- Securing endorsement for all Value Engineering savings platforms and project initiatives at the appropriate governance forums eg Project Management boards and gaining alignment with markets & relevant sites
- Efficiently deploy Project funds and resources to deliver the Category VE strategy
- Supporting SC input in the NPI Stage & Gate process, ensuring application of Design to Value principles for new product development
- Capturing, analysing and fully understanding Category business requirements & translating these into Value Engineering strategies and programs
- Developing and rolling out best practice tools, templates and training programs on Value Engineering for the category, relevant sites & regions in the New Consumer Healthcare organization
- Championing the deployment of technical solutions to support our Sustainability Company goals on recyclability readiness, Virgin Plastic footprint reduction and CO2 emissions reduction
Qualifications and skills
Essential
- Graduation degree in either of these subjects – science, engineering, maths, commerce, economics, Accounting & Finance, business management
- At least 8 – 12 years’ experience in either or a combination of manufacturing operations management in FMCH, FMCG or pharmaceutical multinational or R&D product development roles combined with supply chain roles
- Experience in operational site roles and across one or more than one supply chain function – Manufacturing, planning, Procurement, Logistics, Engineering, Technical, Quality
- Proven experience and delivery of Cost Savings projects of substantive value
- Financial acumen to analyse complex data across the supply chain and combine with variables to identify cost saving opportunities.
- Exposure to Commercial category / markets to be able to quickly understand and evaluate impact of VE ideas on consumers / trade and develop effective approval strategies
- Understanding of the product development & registration processes & timelines
- Experience of leading multiple cross functional projects in matrix organisation
Preferred
- Post-Graduation Certification or Post Graduation Degree in either of these subjects – Supply Chain operations, business management, Sciences, Engineering, Technical, Accounting & Finance
- The incumbent will ideally have completed training to certification level of VE expertise by SAVE International or affiliates
- Specific personal or professional interest in Sustainable packaging solutions would be highly appreciated through recyclability, Virgin plastic reduction or CO2 reduction solutions
- Proven leadership ability to lead and manage global teams across different categories / functions
- Problem solving abilities and use of OE or other tools across multiple disciplines
- Good understanding of financial dimensions– across Supply Chain and Commercial
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation and influencing skills
- Knowledge of Supply network and supply capability, Regulatory processes including timelines, constraints and options and technical understanding of the relevant CH Technology platforms
- Ability to operate at both tactical and strategic level to deliver timely and appropriate interventions
