Overview
Great Britain’s electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
At National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO), we’re aiming to operate a zero-carbon electricity system for Great Britain by 2025. This means using wind, solar and hydropower – without relying on any carbon-based generators to balance the grid.
The ESG (Environmental, Societal and Governance) Lead will play a key role in advancing our ESG initiatives. This role is pivotal in helping us enhance our ESG efforts, aligning them with sustainability goals and best practices, and ensuring we make informed decisions for the pursuit of responsible business practices.

This role is based from Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.
Becoming the Energy Future System Operator
As you may have seen the Government and Ofgem have asked the ESO to take on new roles and responsibilities
Becoming the Energy Future System Operator is a critical step to help deliver a reliable and clean energy transition for all.
