Overview
We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious leader to take on the role of WAT Director for Humanities and Sustainability. This is a pivotal Trust-wide position, offering the opportunity to shape and drive excellence in secondary History and Geography, alongside sustainability and climate action education across the curriculum.
The successful candidate will play a central role in improving curriculum quality, teaching, assessment, and outcomes, while positioning the Trust as a regional and national leader in subject curriculum development and sustainability education.
The WAT Director for Humanities and Sustainability will:
- Drive sustained improvement in curriculum quality, teaching, assessment and outcomes in secondary History and Geography.
- Lead and embed high-quality sustainability and climate action education across the wider curriculum.
- Work closely with Faculty Directors to develop and maintain a shared vision of excellence in curriculum design, teaching and assessment across the Trust.
- Support the development and implementation of a coherent, shared curriculum for History and Geography across the secondary phase.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent
- Qualified teacher status
- Evidence of engaging in continuing professional development
- Degree at 2:1 or above
- Faculty Director or Subject Leadership experience
- A track record of delivering positive student outcomes
- An outstanding classroom practitioner
- A track record of examination success and improving results
- Evidence of own pedagogy impacting the subject
- Able to enthuse, motivate and lead staff through a sense of credibility
- Engages in research and using it to inform pedagogical development
- Engages with subject specific developments, innovation and research
- Evidence of leading staff development, coaching and mentoring
- Experience of leading a subject network and evidence of the impact
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualification in subject or equivalent
- Experience of working across more than one school
A full clean driving license is essential, as the role involves travel to various sites.
