Overview
We are looking for a Sustainability Procurement Manager to embed ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles into our Group procurement strategy, aligning with the Group Sustainability strategy, ensuring that purchasing decisions deliver positive environmental and social impact while supporting commercial objectives.
This role partners closely with the Group Environmental Sustainability Advisor, Procurement Category Managers, Suppliers, and internal stakeholders to drive our Group strategy to achieve responsible sourcing, reduce carbon footprint, and ensure compliance with sustainability regulations and reporting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and manage sustainability targets across procurement categories (e.g., carbon reduction, waste minimisation, ethical sourcing), including associated data collection and management.
- Lead the integration of sustainability criteria in supplier selection, evaluation, and contract management.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers to encourage innovation in low‑carbon, circular, and socially responsible solutions.
- Evaluate and segment suppliers based on sustainability performance and risk.
- Lead supplier audits, sustainability assessments, and improvement plans.
- Ensure procurement practices comply with relevant sustainability standards (e.g., ISO 20400, UK Modern Slavery Act, Scope 3 reporting requirements).
- Maintain documentation and reporting to support internal governance and external disclosures (e.g., ESG reporting, regulatory submissions).
- Manage sustainability metrics across the supply chain, including:
- Scope 3 emissions
- Waste and recycling performance
- Ethical labour and modern slavery risk indicators
- Support the Company’s broader ESG reporting through validated procurement data.
- Partner with category managers, legal, finance, and operations to embed sustainability in sourcing decisions.
- Provide training and guidance to procurement teams on sustainable sourcing best practices.
- Influence senior leaders to drive adoption of responsible procurement standards.
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact through contract renegotiation, supplier innovation, or process optimisation.
- Lead pilot programs for sustainable materials, circular procurement, or eco‑efficiency initiatives.
- Keep abreast of emerging sustainability regulations, frameworks, and market trends.
Skills & Experience:
- Senior Procurement qualification (e.g., CIPS Sustainable Procurement, IEMA).
- Experience in supplier management and commercial negotiation.
- Ability to analyse data and present insights for decision-making.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and reporting standards (e.g., GHG Protocol, ISO 20400, IS050001 SBTi).
- Practical experience in ESG, Scope 3, or responsible sourcing
- Strong commercial background in procurement, supply chain, or sustainability roles.
This is a full time role, based from our Head Office in Basingstoke, however if you are located near another of our UK sites we may be able to flex on the location as some travel to our suppliers will be required.
