At Screwfix, sustainability isn’t a side project. It’s a business priority.
We’re looking for a Sustainability Manager to lead and evolve our sustainability agenda at a critical point in our journey. This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across the business and the opportunity to shape how one of the UK’s leading retailers delivers meaningful environmental change.
Reporting into the Director of Supply Chain & Logistics, you’ll own the Screwfix Sustainability Plan, driving delivery of our ambitions and ensuring sustainability is embedded into the way we think, operate and grow. From influencing senior stakeholders and leading strategic programmes, to shaping policy, governance and engagement across the business, this role sits at the centre of making real, measurable progress happen.
You’ll also lead a specialist team spanning carbon, packaging, responsible sourcing and sustainability coordination, helping turn ambitious goals into practical outcomes for our business, customers and communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the sustainability agenda across Screwfix, ensuring our strategy, policies and environmental targets are delivered.
- Drive delivery of Screwfix’s ‘Bold’ sustainability ambition, turning plans into measurable business outcomes.
- Work with teams across the business to coordinate and comply with environmental regulatory requirements.
- Lead and develop the Sustainability Team, setting clear objectives and supporting delivery.
- Act as the sustainability figurehead for the business, chairing the Sustainability Steering Committee and coordinating the quarterly Responsible Business Committee.
- Engage and empower colleagues to embed sustainability into their roles, including developing and driving internal engagement programmes.
- Partner with Kingfisher Responsible Business teams to shape and deliver group Responsible Business policies and banner requirements locally.
- Share sustainability performance reporting, providing clear progress updates to Kingfisher, internally across Screwfix, and through external disclosures.
- Deliver sustainability training, updates and deep‑dives to build capability across the business.
- Oversee internal and external sustainability communications, working closely with Marketing, Internal Comms and Commercial teams.
- Build strong relationships with other retailers, NGOs and specialist partners to identify and implement best practice.
Required Skills & Experience:
- A genuine passion for sustainability and making a positive impact.
- Relevant education in a related field (environmental/sustainability disciplines).
- Experience managing projects or programmes, with strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Background in Responsible Business or Sustainability, ideally within a large or complex organisation (retail experience is a plus).
- A collaborative team player, comfortable working cross‑functionally to deliver business‑wide initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all management levels, in particular verbal and written communication must be clear, detailed, and accurate.
- Data gathering, analysis and communication experience.
- Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfortable presenting to large and varied audiences.
We’ve worked hard to create a culture of inclusivity and genuine community. We’re a company built on teamwork, and the best teams are ones in which everyone can share their view. Whatever your background, however you identify, you’ll be listened to, encouraged, and given the tools and training you need to get ahead. You’ll always know where you are with us. We’re open. We’re fair. And we believe in opportunities for everyone.
