JOB SUMMARY

To be responsible for defining communicating and implementing the long-term Sustainability Strategy for Canary Wharf Contractors (CWCL) on projects. As the Sustainability Manager for Wood Wharf, a good level of knowledge and awareness is required to be maintained.

This is a fixed term role until April 2027. The position is site-based with occasional work in Canary Wharf Head Office.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote the Canary Wharf Sustainability Strategy to Development and Construction projects and actively contribute to CWCL strategy updates.
  • Ensure Projects teams understand, take ownership, and implement the required actions to deliver the aims, objectives, KPIs and targets of our Sustainability Strategy.
  • Embed the Strategy by providing support and facilitation where required i.e., Design Meetings, Project Meetings, Environmental Representatives, and deliver other workshops, training, internal communications as required.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate governance and management systems to support the Strategy i.e., Policy, Procedures, reporting systems, etc.
  • Collate, monitor and analyse all project sustainability data on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required and report into Senior Sustainability Manager.
  • In conjunction with Sustainability Reporting team coordinate data and information necessary to compile relevant sections of CWG Annual Corporate Responsibility Report and any other external sustainability communications i.e. award entries / brochures / website etc.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • It is essential that the incumbent has proven Sustainability experience gained developing, implementing, managing and reporting similar strategies within the construction and/or the commercial development sector.
  • The incumbent will have proven sustainability and environmental management experience gained from construction management real estate/ and/or the commercial development sector.
  • It is essential that the incumbent is a member of an appropriate Professional Body e.g. IEMA and also holds an appropriate sustainability and or environmental qualification i.e. BREEAM AP / NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management.
  • Experience in carbon assessment and management within the construction or built environment. A working knowledge of recognised Sustainability Indices such as Global Reporting Initiative / FTSE for Good / Dow Jones Sustainability Index etc. as well as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRREAM, Considerate Constructors Scheme, benchmarking & KPIs is essential.
  • This role will demand critical attention to detail. The ability to motivate others to meet co-ordination deadlines in a diplomatic manner, while maintaining relationships will be essential.
  • It is essential that the incumbent possess excellent communication skills, as the role involves dealing with Trade Contractors, Consultants, Statutory Authorities, Neighbours and Technical Support Staff and interfacing with external parties.
  • It is essential that the incumbent be self-motivated, tenacious, and able to work well as part of a team with Consultants, Trade Contractors and others associated with Sustainable Buildings and Corporate Responsibility.
  • The ability to make commercially aware decisions is essential.
  • Ability to develop and implement management systems and update related processes and procedures when required is essential.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development is essential. IT literacy and good IT working skills (using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases and doc control systems e.g. Asite and Sharepoint) are essential.
  • It is essential that the incumbent be conscious of, and actively promotes the adherence of Health & Safety Quality and Environmental Standards and Procedures.
  • A positive and helpful attitude and customer service orientation are essential.
