Overview

Ground Control is expanding its regional maintenance and small works capability, and we’re looking for an experienced, customer-focused engineer to join our Energy Solutions team, where you will be expected to cover across Edinburgh, Glasgow and the wider Central Belt.

If you enjoy solving technical challenges, working independently and seeing the results of your work, this is an opportunity to put your electrical expertise to good use while contributing to reliable, lower-carbon infrastructure.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining customer assets and delivering smaller projects across your region, working independently across commercial, industrial and public-sector sites.

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance, including inspections, testing, fault-finding, repairs and replacement of electrical equipment and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Deliver small works projects from start to finish, coordinating site surveys, materials, installations, specialist subcontractors and customer handovers.
  • Support a variety of additional works, including water-efficiency measures, water butt installations, minor civils and asset replacements where appropriately trained and competent.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, recommending remedial works and asset improvements, supporting quotations and escalating larger or higher-risk activities when required.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including job reports, test results, photographs, customer sign-offs and relevant safety information.
  • Build positive customer relationships, communicating effectively with site contacts and internal teams while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and service.

You may also participate in an agreed call-out or emergency-response rota if introduced for your region.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a capable electrical engineer who takes pride in delivering quality work, enjoys solving problems and can confidently manage their workload with minimal supervision.

Essential:

  • City & Guilds 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382) and City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing, or equivalent qualifications.
  • NICEIC Certification or an appropriate and valid ECS or CSCS card.
  • Proven experience in electrical inspection, testing, fault diagnosis, repairs and remedial works, with the ability to deliver small projects and coordinate materials.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Confident communication and a customer-focused approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and make sound decisions on site.
  • A full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel across your region and stay overnight occasionally.
  • An Emergency First Aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable:

  • Experience maintaining and repairing AC/DC EV charging infrastructure, including connectivity and communications diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of solar PV, air source heat pumps or other renewable technologies.
  • Experience in minor civils, water management, building services or infrastructure works.
  • Working at Height, HAVS awareness, SSSTS or similar training.
  • Experience supporting multi-site commercial, utility, local-authority or public-sector customers.

Previous EV or renewable energy experience isn’t essential. We’re keen to hear from suitably qualified electricians looking to broaden their technical experience and develop their skills across a growing range of services.

If you’re looking for a varied, hands-on role where you can take responsibility, solve challenges and make a meaningful contribution, we’d love to hear from you.
