The Department
The Investment Sustainability Solutions Team (ISST) is a multidisciplinary group of sustainable investment professionals specialising in sustainability data and research, stewardship and engagement, and sustainability policy and reporting. The team supports investment teams and their clients by helping them consider and integrate sustainability within the investment process, partnering closely with Investment Risk, Compliance, Technology, and Product to enable rigorous, data-driven investment decision-making. ISST operates as a highly collaborative, cross-functional group within Franklin Templeton’s global platform, offering an environment that values intellectual curiosity, partnership with portfolio managers, and continued development across evolving sustainability priorities.
How You Will Add Value
- Conduct data-driven sustainability research on financially material risks, opportunities, and impacts.
- Support thematic research across climate, nature, human capital, governance, and other topics.
- Evaluate, curate, and analyse large datasets from internal and external sustainability data vendors.
- Analyse, validate, and interpret sustainability data for investment and risk use cases.
- Enhance internal analytical frameworks supporting sustainability risk and opportunity assessments.
- Translate research insights into scalable analytics with quantitative and technology partners.
- Support sustainability data vendor due diligence, methodologies, coverage, and limitations.
- Contribute to governance, documentation, and best practices for sustainability data usage.
Strategic Responsibilities:
- Identify financially material sustainability topics across asset classes and investment styles.
- Support investment decision-making through rigorous, data-driven sustainability insights.
- Help evolve how sustainability data integrates into investment processes.
Teams & Collaboration:
- Partner closely with investment teams on sustainability data and research questions.
- Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, Product, Technology, and Reporting teams globally.
- Communicate complex analytical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
What Will Help You Be Successful
- Mid-to-senior level experience in data analysis, research, or analytics within asset management or financial services.
- Strong understanding of financial instruments and investment concepts across one or more asset classes.
- Experience supporting investment teams or working in research closely tied to investment decision-making.
- Interest in sustainability topics and willingness to develop expertise in financial materiality assessment.
- Experience working with databases and data analysis tools such as SQL (Structured Query Language).
- Basic to intermediate experience using Python or R (R programming language) for analysis.
- Strong communication skills, including explaining complex analytics to non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
- Ability to work with large, imperfect datasets using sound judgement and critical thinking.
- Familiarity with analytics, models, dashboards, or scalable analytical frameworks.
- Exposure to sustainability data vendors, frameworks, or emerging sustainability regulations.
- Intellectual curiosity and comfort working across evolving sustainability topics.
- Ability to operate as a trusted partner to investment professionals and senior stakeholders.
