Time is spent producing clear, high-quality reports that demonstrate performance against strategy and compliance obligations. The role also involves undertaking data assurance activities, checking accuracy, completeness and alignment with reporting standards.
There is a strong focus on improving data quality through enhanced collection methods and assurance processes, while also preparing data for regulatory disclosures and financial reporting. Regular engagement with stakeholders ensures requirements are met, alongside managing ad-hoc requests and maintaining accurate records to support effective sustainability performance management.

Our Sustainability Reporting team sits at the centre of Network Rail’s sustainability strategy, bringing together data, insight and expertise to drive informed decision making. We are a collaborative, forward-thinking group that works closely with teams across the business to ensure performance is accurately measured, reported and continuously improved.
The team combines technical knowledge with a practical, solutions-focused approach, providing trusted challenge and support to stakeholders at all levels. With a strong focus on innovation and improvement, we play a key role in helping Network Rail meet its commitments to deliver a greener railway that is fit for the future, cares for the environment and helps communities thrive.
Next Steps

Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for a detail-oriented and analytical individual with a strong interest in both sustainability and data. The ideal candidate has experience working with data collection, analysis and reporting, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, meaningful insights.
A solid understanding of regulatory and reporting requirements is important, alongside strong numerical and statistical skills. Confidence in checking data accuracy and applying assurance processes will help ensure high-quality outputs.
The role suits someone who is organised, proactive and able to manage multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, with an ability to collaborate across teams and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner.
A continuous improvement mindset and curiosity to explore trends, risks and opportunities will help drive better sustainability performance across the organisation.
Essential Criteria
- Proven experience in analytical techniques using excel (or other).
- Qualification in numerate subject (or equivalent through experience).
- Ability to link information from different sources to identify discrepancies.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills, with demonstrable experience in producing performance reports.
- Experienced in communicating data and data analysis to different stakeholder groups to improve understanding and support decision making.
- Ability to organise, store, and maintain large datasets with high levels of accuracy, accessibility, and compliance with data governance requirements.
Desirable
- Demonstrable experience of engaging in sustainability and making changes to see positive improvements
- Process improvement skills/expertise.
- A degree or equivalent in numerate discipline.
- Good knowledge of the railway including how data is used to make decisions and the regulatory landscape
- Proven experience in using Power BI/Power apps.
Previous experience analysing sustainability data.
