We support clients to decarbonise their energy, buildings, and transport operations, and you will play a pivotal leadership role in this mission by managing 1-2 key strategic accounts  and ensuring the successful delivery of their energy and sustainability programmes.

The role is positioned in the Mitie Energy Operations team, and the successful candidate will be accountable for the overall performance, growth, and strategic direction of their accounts, ensuring we exceed contractual requirements and build long-term, trusted partnerships.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Strategic Client Lead. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with a proven background in sustainability, decarbonisation, and client management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, matrix-manage and drive multi-disciplinary teams to deliver outstanding energy and sustainability outcomes.
  • Act as the primary contact for 1-2 key accounts, responsible for strategic engagement with multiple senior client stakeholders.
  • Own the client relationship, ensuring delivery against SLAs, KPIs, and financial objectives, while proactively identifying opportunities for added value.
  • Develop and implement long-term account strategies, aligning with client net-zero and ESG objectives.
  • Drive business growth within your accounts through consultancy services, project delivery, and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Oversee financial performance, reporting, and forecasting for assigned account, ensuring profitability and value creation.
  • Collaborate with operational colleagues, functional teams, and the wider Mitie business to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Act as an ambassador for Mitie, promoting innovation, resilience, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, coaching and mentoring future leaders across the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field (e.g. Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability).
  • 10+ years’ experience in energy management, sustainability, or consulting
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, client relationship and communication skills at C-suite level, with the ability to become a trusted client partner.
  • Proven track record of delivering decarbonisation strategies, energy performance contracts, or large-scale sustainability programmes.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership of high-performing, cross-functional teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience in business growth.
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends, regulatory frameworks, and sustainability best practices.
  • Understanding of energy bureau/accounting, energy procurement and BMS control systems would be beneficial.
