Overview
FT Specialist is looking for a Reporter to join Sustainable Views, a leading business-to-business publication covering sustainability rules and regulations and the changing geopolitical landscape shaping environmental, social and governance policy.
This is an opportunity to join a growing editorial team covering one of the most dynamic areas in business journalism. You will produce timely news, insightful analysis and interviews that help readers understand the development of sustainability regulation, its implementation and its implications for businesses and markets.
Alongside written journalism, you will contribute to Sustainable Views’ podcast, social media and wider audio and visual output, helping the team develop engaging ways to bring its reporting to existing and new audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the editor and wider Sustainable Views team to produce accurate and engaging news stories, analysis and interviews.
- Report on developments in sustainability regulation, policy and implementation, explaining their significance to a specialist business audience.
- Build and maintain a strong network of contacts across relevant policy, business and market communities.
- Contribute to and appear on the Sustainable Views podcast.
- Help develop Sustainable Views’ wider media offering, including innovative social media, audio and visual content.
- Attend and report from relevant industry, policy and stakeholder events.
- Support editing when required.
- Contribute flexibly to other editorial priorities and projects as required by the editors.
Skills and Experience
Required:
- At least one year of reporting experience, including experience working in a fast-paced newsroom or comparable editorial environment.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with editors and colleagues.
- Some understanding of sustainable finance and market-based approaches to addressing climate change.
- Some understanding of UK and EU sustainability policymaking, including areas such as clean energy, climate change, sustainable finance and human rights.
- A strong ability to produce clear, accurate and high-quality written journalism.
- The ability to manage multiple stories or projects concurrently and work effectively to deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to conduct interviews and develop sources.
- Flexibility around working hours when required by the news agenda.
Desirable:
- A degree or equivalent experience in journalism, data journalism or a related field.
- Good numeracy skills and confidence interpreting data.
- Experience using ChatGPT or other AI tools appropriately to support data analysis.
- An interest in using data to uncover stories and provide additional insight for readers.
- An enthusiasm for audio, video and social media as ways of extending the reach and impact of journalism.
