Passionate about the environment and making a difference? Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Head of Environmental Sustainability to lead our Environmental team.

In this key role, you’ll set the strategic direction for environmental sustainability and decarbonisation across Thirteen. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on customers, communities and colleagues, in line with our commitment to becoming a much greener organisation.

This is a hybrid role, so you’ll work mainly from home and at least one day a week from our fantastic office at Hudson Quay in Middlesbrough. We’ll need you to be flexible around business and team need, so you may need to come into the office more frequently when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically support a range of projects and initiatives. Your wide-ranging influence will include delivering sustainable homes which are fit for the future, tackling fuel poverty, and educating colleagues so they can best support our customers.
  • Lead the development of approaches to climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability.
  • Influence and support decarbonisation initiatives, such as zero carbon and the decarbonisation of new and existing homes.
  • Implement energy management programmes and strategies to reduce carbon-based energy reliance.
  • Manage environmental compliance and innovation. You’ll align strategic and operational plans with external initiatives and funding mechanisms, to identify continuous improvement and development opportunities.

About You:

  • You’ll have senior leadership experience in an environmental team, as part of a complex organisation.
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic environmental leadership, policy development, and environmental management systems.
  • A fantastic people manager, skilled in leading, inspiring, and motivating your team.
  • You’ll hold chartered membership of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental professionals and Assessment (ISEP) or have equivalent experience.
  • Great influencing and negotiation skills as you’ll be working with customers, colleagues, boards, and external stakeholders to bring about change and innovation.
  • Comfortable interpreting complex data, conducting research, and making sound judgements. You’ll be able to produce clear, well-written reports on environmental and strategic issues.
