Join the Diocese of Norwich as our Environmental and Sustainability Advisor, supporting the delivery of the Net Zero Carbon policy and providing practical support and resources for the sustainable management of Church-owned land and buildings
What You’ll Be Doing
- Have lead responsibility for coordinating work to implement the Diocesan Net Zero Carbon Action Plan.
- Devising and facilitating implementation of a management plan to ensure year-on-year reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
- Undertaking effective data analysis and reporting to support decision making.
- Supporting the continuing development of accurate emissions data.
- Supporting the work of the Property Team in relation to clergy housing, by providing energy audits and reviewing options for measures to reduce carbon footprint.
- Offering advice on projects designed to support parishes and schools in relation to net zero carbon, such as energy audits, including support on options, permissions, and funding.
- Providing environmental guidance and technical support to the Norwich Diocesan Board of Finance and Parishes.
- Maintaining awareness of resources and funding opportunities available.
What We’re Looking For
- Relevant degree or professional qualification/s in sustainability, or project management.
- Specific skills and expertise in an area related to understanding the implementation of carbon emissions reduction (this could be, for example, a technical skill or expertise in understanding the science).
- Knowledgeable and passionate about environmental issues and climate change.
- The capacity to build relationships with colleagues, clergy and volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Excellent skills in presentation, written and visual communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Calm, professional, and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Able to handle a high‑volume workload and adapt to changing priorities.
- Capable of working independently and taking responsibility.
- Logical, systematic and able to work well with a range of people.
- Supportive of the aims and purpose of the Church of England.
- Full driving licence and access to a car.
- An understanding of and commitment to working with a range of building types, including churches, halls, and clergy houses, to improve their energy efficiency and work towards Net Zero Carbon.
- Experience in securing grant support.
- Experience of fundraising or helping facilitate fundraising events for heritage or community bodies.
