This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.
What is the role?
Responsibility for the driving sustainable practices within Gatwick’s Engineering function to address commitments through Gatwick’s sustainability policies and procedures. Through continual improvement, innovative thinking, and harnessing changing technologies, this role will support and energise the wider Engineering function to excel in the sustainability sector.
Delivery and sponsorship of projects relating to Engineering’s sustainability commitments will be a key part of the role and requires effective communication across different levels within the business to ensure benefits are realised in a timely and effective way.
What will you do?
- Drive and prioritise sustainability activities and maintain momentum to achieve a best-in-class sustainability position
- Utilise best practice industry standards to ensure Gatwick’s sustainability solutions are fit for purpose
- Sponsor and project manage projects to deliver beneficial outcomes for the business
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement within the sustainability sector for maintenance and Engineering projects.
- Provide technical guidance and expertise to all GAL departments in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of engineering systems and infrastructure
- Own and deliver a communications rhythm to bring the Engineering function on the journey to a more sustainable future
- Coordinate with delivery teams to ensure successful design outcomes are being realised and handed over to operational teams
- Balance the need to design fit for purpose solutions whilst maximising the best whole life cycle benefits.
Do you have what we’re looking for?
- Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture
- Strong people leadership and influencing skills to communicate across the business and with external stakeholders
- Proven in depth working knowledge of safety management policies, procedures, and practices
- Experience in delivering strategic outcomes associated with ESG agendas in complex, large, multi-faceted organisations
- Demonstrable experience of successful delivery in an operational environment
- Proficient understanding of Health Safety & Environmental associated with construction and operational environments, including CDM
- Adept at communicating at all levels and across different teams and stakeholders
- In-depth knowledge of current specific Statutory Regulations, British Standards, emerging technologies/processes, and industry best practice.
