Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Sustainability Coordinator to join our Building Division. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to develop a career in sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), and responsible business practices within a thriving construction environment.

Working closely with Sustainability Managers, project teams and key stakeholders, you will support the delivery of sustainability strategies and initiatives across projects and business functions. You will play a key role in monitoring performance, supporting compliance, coordinating sustainability activities, and helping the business achieve its environmental and social value objectives.

This role is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, an interest in sustainability, and a passion for making a positive impact.


Key Responsibilities

Sustainability Support & Coordination

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Sustainability team.
  • Assist in delivering sustainability strategies, programmes and initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of sustainability objectives across projects and business functions.
  • Coordinate sustainability activities, meetings, action plans and follow-up actions.

ESG Data Collection & Reporting

  • Collect, collate and maintain environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance data.
  • Support reporting on carbon emissions, energy usage, waste, water consumption and other sustainability metrics.
  • Maintain sustainability registers, trackers and reporting dashboards.
  • Assist with the preparation of client, framework and corporate sustainability reports.

Environmental & Sustainability Compliance

  • Support compliance with environmental legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
  • Assist in implementing sustainability management plans and project commitments.
  • Maintain records and evidence to support audits, inspections and assurance activities.
  • Monitor sustainability performance objectives and targets.

Carbon & Resource Efficiency

  • Assist with carbon reduction initiatives and emissions tracking.
  • Support project teams in identifying ways to reduce waste, energy consumption and resource use.
  • Promote sustainable construction practices and responsible resource management.
  • Monitor recycling and waste diversion performance.

Social Value & Community Engagement

  • Support the delivery and tracking of social value commitments.
  • Assist with community engagement, volunteering and educational initiatives.
  • Maintain records of social value activities and outcomes.
  • Support project teams in meeting client-specific social value requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Awareness

  • Promote sustainability awareness and best practice across the business.
  • Support the creation of sustainability communications, campaigns and training materials.
  • Assist in coordinating sustainability events, workshops and awareness activities.
  • Liaise with project teams, supply chain partners and external stakeholders as required.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Support sustainability audits, reviews and performance assessments.
  • Maintain sustainability procedures, templates and guidance documents.
  • Ensure sustainability records are accurate, organised and audit-ready.
  • Stay informed of sustainability legislation, industry developments and best practice.
  • Contribute ideas and support the implementation of new sustainability initiatives and improvement programmes.

About You

Essential

  • A genuine interest in sustainability, environmental management and ESG principles.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to collect, manage and analyse data accurately.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • A proactive, organised and detail-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a sustainability, environmental, social value or administrative support role.
  • Experience within the construction, engineering or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of carbon reporting, environmental management systems or ESG frameworks.
  • A relevant sustainability, environmental or ESG qualification (or currently working towards one).
