Morgan Stanley’s Global Sustainability Office (GSO) is responsible for implementing the firm’s sustainability strategy and aims to drive the growth of sustainable investing through ongoing development of products and solutions, thought leadership, support for early-stage companies and organizations and capacity building initiatives. Positioned under the firm’s Chief Sustainability Officer, the team partners with senior leadership across the firm to integrate sustainability considerations into core business globally. The EMEA GSO team leverages the group’s global experience and capabilities to drive regional sustainability strategy, coordination and execution across the EU and UK.

The Director will be a sustainability subject matter generalist with a passion for corporate sustainability, excellent project management skills, strong attention to detail and nuance, and exceptional business writing, presentation and organizational skills. The Director will develop and manage complex work plans and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support the firm’s suite of sustainability disclosures and reporting requirements. Additionally, the Director will assist in managing and enhancing internal employee engagement around the firm’s sustainability activities and strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Support EMEA regional and firm-wide sustainability reporting efforts, including interfacing with senior GSO leadership and the firm’s business units to: collect content, initiate drafting, improve reporting capabilities and procedures, collect and track sustainability data, and liaise with the Finance team to project manage GSO’s contribution
  • Lead the development and execution of materiality assessments required for disclosures under CSRD and ISSB on behalf of global entities
  • Support sustainability-related regulatory change and delivery efforts within EMEA, collaborating with business divisions and control functions to enhance compliance, for example, establishing and managing new processes, assessments, and internal management reporting
  • Help to develop agendas, collate materials, capture minutes for various relevant EMEA committees and governance forums
  • Drive the process of the firm’s submissions to EMEA responses to RFP/RFI questions on sustainability topics
  • Conduct research on emerging corporate sustainability, regulatory reporting and impact reporting topics, monitor emerging sustainability issues on an ongoing basis, and identify relevant risks and opportunities

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Previous corporate sustainability experience either in-house or in a consulting role 5 years+; financial services and regulatory compliance experience a plus
  • Solid understanding of the sustainability reporting landscape and the key established and emerging EMEA regulatory frameworks
  • Detail-orientation with excellent business writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Comfortable with balancing multiple priorities and effective multi-tasking, with ability to manage stakeholders and prioritize work with support from senior team members
  • Ability to operate collaboratively in a team culture
  • Demonstrate passion for sustainability and amplifying programmatic initiatives with employees
  • Ability to build relationships and work with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment
