We are looking for a Sustainability, Environment & Energy Manager to lead our environmental strategy, compliance, and performance. This is a part time job share opportunity (3 days per week)

You will play a key role in ensuring we meet Transport for London (TfL) concession requirements while driving forward our sustainability ambitions.

What you will do

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of our Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and Energy Management System (ISO 50001).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, permits, and TfL standards.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance, including carbon emissions, energy, waste, noise, air quality, and biodiversity.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives, focusing on carbon reduction and resource efficiency.
  • Provide expert environmental advice to operational teams and project managers.
  • Lead environmental audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring effective corrective actions.
  • Represent GTS in external forums and stakeholder engagements, championing best practice.
  • Support sustainability reporting and delivery of TfL environmental and carbon reduction plans.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to embed circular economy principles into operations and procurement.
  • Deliver training, communications, and engagement initiatives to promote environmental awareness and behavioural change.
  • Manage utilities processes, including meter readings, purchase orders, and invoice validation.
  • Support operational teams during disruption when required, contributing to a customer-focused railway.

What you will bring

  • A degree in a relevant discipline and membership of a professional body (e.g., IEMA).
  • Proven experience in environmental management within transport, infrastructure, or regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing management systems and improving environmental performance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience in incident investigation and reporting.
  • Experience working within regulated or concession-based environments, ideally with knowledge of TfL standards.
  • A proactive, resilient approach with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced operational setting.
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for driving sustainable change.
