Are you an experienced sustainability leader with a passion for driving environmental change at scale? Do you have the vision and expertise to deliver decarbonisation and climate resilience across a large housing portfolio? If so, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
We’re looking for a Head of Environmental Sustainability to join our Assets leadership team. Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and embed a clear environmental sustainability and net zero strategy aligned to corporate and asset management plans
* Lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s decarbonisation pathway for existing and new homes, including fabric-first retrofit, low-carbon heating and renewable technologies.
* Provide strategic oversight and assurance for large-scale investment programmes focused on energy efficiency and sustainability outcomes
* Establish and monitor carbon emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3), setting baselines, forecasts, and performance targets
* Develop and implement a Climate Resilience and Adaptation Strategy, addressing risks such as overheating and flooding
* Lead sustainability governance, including chairing internal sustainability and climate groups
* Develop and oversee environmental KPIs, ESG reporting, and performance frameworks
* Build and maintain external partnerships and secure funding to support sustainability initiatives
* Embed sustainability principles across asset investment, development, and regeneration programmes
* Ensure programmes deliver measurable benefits for residents, including improved comfort, affordability, and wellbeing
* Provide high-quality reporting and strategic advice to senior leadership, Executive teams, and Board
More about you:
* Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with evidence of continuous professional development
* Experience within housing or a local authority environment (desirable, not essential)
* Significant senior-level experience leading environmental sustainability or decarbonisation programmes
* Strong understanding of retrofit approaches, building fabric performance, and low-carbon technologies
* Experience developing carbon baselines, emissions reporting, and performance management frameworks
* Strong financial and commercial skills, including business case development and investment planning
* Experience working with large, complex housing portfolios or asset management environments
* Strong programme and project management capability
* Ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders, including Executive teams and Boards
* Excellent stakeholder management and partnership-building skills
* Proven ability to deliver service improvements and measurable outcomes for customers
