With a long track record in delivery of sustainability Services, the Focus ASSESS team continues to grow.  We’re therefore excited to offer an unmissable opportunity to join our expanding close-knit team, supporting project work in across our Services. We invite applications at a Graduate/Trainee level – whilst some prior experience is beneficial, full training is available for an early career individual with potential and passion. The main responsibilities are set out below:

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Domestic (SAP) and/or Non-Domestic (SBEM) Energy Calculations and dynamic modelling across several sectors.
  • Helping with delivery of Simplified Method Overheating Calculations.
  • Producing supporting Calculations for Planning statements / Energy statements.
  • Provide expertise in relation to Building Regulations Part L
  • Supporting role for our Performance Testing Services
  • Assist with Environmental Assessment Methods Services (BREEAM, DREAM, HQM, Fitwel etc) and wider energy assessments and evaluations across sectors.
  • Help the planning support team interpret Local Authority Sustainability Policies and assist with the responses surrounding Energy and Sustainability strategy.
  • Contribute towards providing broad advice to developers on Low and Zero Carbon approaches.

This list is not exhaustive, and you may be asked from time to time to contribute to the wider needs of the team. Whilst the duties and desired attributes associated with this role are quite broad, the final core competencies of the post can be geared to the strengths and experience of the successful candidate.

Ideal Candidate: attributes/skills

  • SAP / SBEM software experience and a good understanding of Building Regulations (specifically AD Part L) and a relevant qualification/accreditation advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the principles of Environmental Assessment Methods (EAM) like BREEAM, DREAM and Fitwel would be beneficial.
  • An advanced educational background related to technical construction is important e.g., HNC, degree.
  • The role is technical so requires high attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • The ability to communicate complex and technical information succinctly and effectively in writing.

  • Be driven to succeed – we encourage individual ambition to meet personal goals.
  • An interest in keeping up to date with the latest news and developments in our fast-evolving sector.
  • You will understand the importance of customer service and be capable of delivering this to a high level through excellent verbal communication.
  • Membership of a professional institution desirable (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM, RICS, CIOB etc.)
  • Full, clean driving license is preferred.
