We’re looking for two experienced Environmental & Sustainability Advisors to join our SHES function within Strategic Infrastructure. In this key role, you’ll work as a respected subject matter expert, ensuring that major infrastructure projects are delivered responsibly, sustainably, and with minimal impact on the environment.
You’ll provide first line assurance, guidance, and technical advice to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders across some of the UK’s most high‑profile construction projects.
This role is hybrid based, aligned to our projects therefore you’ll be open to travel across West Coast of Wales, East Coast of England, Greater London Area, or the East Midlands.
Key accountabilities:
- Develop and implement the approach to environment and sustainability management across the Great Grid Partnership (GGP) projects and non-GGP projects; ensuring environmental risks are effectively managed.
- Communicate environmental and sustainability requirements clearly and meaningfully to project teams and wider stakeholders, helping to build a culture that is passionate about protecting the environment and shaping the future of the industry.
- Ensure construction contractors/consultancy partners meet their environmental requirements, providing assurance to the project team that the risks are being appropriately managed.
- Act as a key technical advisor, offering environmental expertise and supporting project teams and contractors to identify opportunities for innovation and best‑practice delivery.
- Measure environmental and sustainability performance across the project and ensure all project and programme reporting requirements are met efficiently and accurately.
- Support investigations into environmental incidents, taking the lead on capturing lessons learned and ensuring they are shared and embedded across the project supply chain.

Experience as an Environmental and/or Sustainability Advisor within project delivery.

Strong understanding of environmental best practice and sustainable delivery.

Excellent stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging at all levels.

A genuine passion for driving positive environmental and sustainability culture.
- Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills.

IEMA (or similar) membership – desirable.

Full UK driving licence for travel across project locations.
What you’ll get
A competitive salary between £54,000 – £64,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement car, a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
