Overview

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with sustainability-related legislation and reporting requirements across Pret’s global operations. It oversees ESG governance processes and supports global supply chain transparency, with a particular focus on carbon management, climate risk, deforestation and animal welfare. The role ensures alignment with regulatory frameworks and industry standards and manages Pret’s internal and external sustainability communications, including the annual sustainability report. A strong understanding of sustainability regulation and reporting frameworks is essential, alongside the ability to engage stakeholders and drive continuous improvement in Pret’s compliance and disclosure practices.

  • Fulfil Pret’s mandatory and voluntary reporting requirements, including the Modern Slavery Statement
  • Manage carbon calculations, decarbonisation efforts, climate risk and TCFD reporting
  • Keep up to date with emerging legislation and ensure Pret is compliant, including the upcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
  • Lead Pret’s approach to animal welfare, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations
  • Programme manage Pret’s Impact Strategy with clear reporting to the business of performance against strategic objectives and KPIs
  • Facilitate internal and external communications and visibility of sustainability at Pret, including through the annual Impact Report
  • Work with market teams and suppliers to increase global transparency of supply chains, aiming for visibility of all tiers of Pret’s supply chain
  • Guide, support and empower wider business colleagues on sustainability and offer expertise for initiatives led by other departments
  • Champion Pret’s sustainability ambition and vision through engaging training sessions
  • Effectively manage Pret’s ESG governance framework, supporting internal policies, controls and measurement systems that enable sustainability progress
  • Advocate for new ways of driving sustainability performance to ensure Pret remains in line with external developments and industry best practice
  • Lead external sustainability reporting and collaboration with third party organisations, such as the Waste Resource Action Programme (WRAP)

  • Bring significant experience in sustainability, preferably within food manufacture, retail or food service focusing on environmental, social and governance issues
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current and emerging regulatory requirements, ensuring proactive compliance across all relevant sustainability legislation
  • Inspire others as a sustainability ambassador, driving improvements in a range of sustainability topics including animal welfare, data-led reporting and ethical sourcing
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering sustainability strategies
  • Ability to foster alignment and collaboration across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, building relationships and motivating people at all levels to engage in the sustainability ambition and change behaviours
  • Broad understanding of key sustainability areas, with a breadth of skill and interest
  • Effective communication skills, translating complex sustainability matters and legislation
  • Confidently navigate working independently and collaboratively, managing priorities effectively
  • Extensive experience of due diligence programmes, audit standards and effective remediation
  • Broad knowledge of sourcing and supply chain practices and due diligence approaches
  • Wide network of industry contacts

This role is based at Pret’s Support Centre in London Victoria, where we work in a hybrid way – typically three days a week in the office.
