West Suffolk Council is seeking to recruit an Senior Energy and Sustainability Officer into the Energy and Sustainability Team at West Suffolk Council.

The purpose of this role is to deliver environmental projects across West Suffolk making environmental improvements for the council, its residents, its communities, and its businesses.

Working as part of our highly experienced and busy team, you will be involved in a wide range of environmental work. The role will support the team to deliver across a range of functions including planning responses, renewable energy systems, electric vehicle charging, and environmental management systems.

The role will involve developing and delivering energy efficiency projects, including submitting funding applications, preparing contract documents, and designing procurement specifications. You will work collaboratively with and support our customers, businesses, and other partners to bring about environmental improvements.

What you will need:

  • Experience in energy surveying and assessments (domestic and commercial)
  • Possess knowledge and experience in managing the specification, procurement, installation and aftercare of renewable energy or EV charging installations.
  • Possess knowledge and experience in using building energy performance assessment and techniques.
  • Working experience and knowledge of renewable energy technologies and the current market.
  • Experience in a technically relevant business environment, including developing business cases.
  • Building/energy surveying experience.
  • Project management experience with particular reference to renewable energy or EV charging projects.
  • Experience of dealing with contractors from a range of sectors including construction, property, and energy.
  • Membership or eligible for membership of relevant professional institution or body.
  • Degree educated in relevant subject area. Flexible approach and willingness to acquire new skills.
  • Highly self-motivated, commercially aware and delivery focused.
  • Attention to details with problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Competence in the use of IT, including data analysis.
  • Ability to prioritise and execute tasks in a high pressure environment and make sound decisions.
  • Able to communicate in user friendly language.
  • Have a strong customer service focus.
