The ECO design/sustainability engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with the environmental directives, reviewing designs for compliance and maintaining the database/technical files to demonstrate compliance.
The ECO design engineer will also be responsible for tracking industry trends and help creating ECO road map.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Analyze design to confirm compliance with regulatory standards i.e. RoHS and REACH directives.
- Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure ECO regulatory compliance meets projects requirements and timelines.
- Carry out life cycle analysis on selected products to create a Product Environmental Profile.
- Review current product implementation and identify improvements in design to increase sustainability.
- Maintain and update GE regulatory compliance tool.
- Track changes and trends in Environmental legislation.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Knowledge and experience of the RoHS2 directive 2011/65/EC.
- Knowledge and experience of the REACH regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the life cycle methodology (ISO14040 Environmental management – Life cycle assessment – Principles and framework) & ability to evaluate the LCA results and accurately report findings.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Product Environmental Profile (ISO14025 Environmental Labels and Declarations).
- Understanding of the WEEE Directive 2011/65/EU.
- Knowledge and understanding of conflict minerals / Dodd-Frank regulations.
- Ability to problem solve, find solutions with minimum support and supervision.
- Ability to innovate, evolve and enhance processes.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Proven ability to work to deadlines and respond effectively to demanding customer requests.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Self-starter, energizing, results orientated and able to multi-task.
Desired Characteristics:
- Knowledge of protection products.
- Knowledge and experience of SCARAB.
- SimaPro, EcoInvent, Windchill, SUMA, WPA experience.
